Using the Online Testing Center is an efficient way to administer your classroom examinations. The Online Testing Center is equipped with approximately 50 computers and has one to two proctors on duty during the time the lab is open. The location of lab is 4th floor of the Education Building in room 418. These computers are heavily secured so that only authorized internet testing (usually via Blackboard) can be accessed by the internet browser. Before you can request that exams be given in the Online Testing Center, you will need to create a Blackboard course site. For more information on how to create a course website in Blackboard or on how to create an assessment in Blackboard please contact Blackboard Assistance.

Once you have created a course website, you are ready to schedule an examination in the Online Testing Center. All examinations must be scheduled online using the new Online Examination Request Form. This form will require you to input examination dates, number of students, length of the examination, and any aids that students will be allowed on their exam. The minimum window of time for the students to schedule tests is one day during the hours that the lab is open. If your test is not going to be available for at least that, you should utilize a traditional paper exam during your scheduled class time. Note that you will not be able to proceed until you have entered all above mentioned information. The Online Testing Center operates on a first come, first serve basis and schedules fill up rapidly. As, it is not always feasible to have your assessments already created when you request examination dates. Fill out the form to the best of your knowledge. Once you have submitted the Online Examination Request Form, you will need to contact the Testing Center Supervisor (ext. 61369) to make any changes to your request. Please note, you must submit your exam request a minimum of 15 businesses days in advance of the exam date, which you are scheduling and have the test deployed four businesses days in advance of the testing date. Otherwise we may not be able to accommodate your exam. Please note due to the greatly increased use of the Online Testing Lab we will have to limit the number of test requests at some point during the semester. Please get your requests before or during the first week or two of classes to insure that you can utilize the Online Testing Center facility's.

After you have submitted your Online Examination Request Form, the Online Testing Center manager will review you request. If your request is approved, you will be sent a confirmation email within 1-2 business days. If the Online Testing Center is unable to meet your request you will be contacted to discuss possible alternatives. Generally, the Online Testing Center is able to find satisfying alternatives by changing the examination times and/or dates, or referring you to another facility that may be able to make special accommodations. It is essential that you review the document How To Deploy a Test Given int the Testing Center and follow the procedures outlined in that document. You do not need to generate a password for the test. The testing lab will generate a password that is compatible with Secure Exam Browser. When you create a exam in the test manager do not use punctuation in the title.

Please inform your students that they will need to schedule an appointment by using our Online Appointment System (http://itc.boisestate.edu/testing lab/STU_OLR.asp) in order to guarantee that a computer will be available for them to use. Do not direct your students to call in to make an appointment, have them use the online form. Students should also be informed that only aids during testing that can used by the student are the ones expressly specified by the instructor. Students will not be able to make appointment for finals till midway through the semester.

The Online Testing Center requires photo identification prior to the start of each examination. Please inform your students that they will not be allowed to take their exam without first showing proper identification. We do understand, however, that there are instances when a student does not have identification (i.e. purse/wallet is stolen, etc.). If you have a student in this situation, send the student to the Online Testing Center to request a "Testing Without Identification Form." The student will then need to bring the form back to you to fill out. Please do not sign the form if any part has been filled out by the student. The most common way students cheat in a proctored environment is by having another student take their examination for them. Please exercise strict judgment when allowing students to test without their identification.

In order to reduce the risk of student cheating, the Online Testing Center has secured each of the assessment computers.

Once your examination dates have passed, you may have students that need to take a makeup exam. You will need to email the names of the students and the dates they will be coming in to take the exam, the name of the class and the test, to the Testing Center Supervisor (mail to Curtis Blevins) If this information is not provided, the student will not be allowed to take a makeup exam, and you will be notified of the discrepancy.

After students have completed their exam all material that was used during the exam by the test takers will be collected by the proctors. At the instructors request we will retain the material for the instructor to collect. Also, instructors may visit the Statistics page to view general statistics about their exam or class or contact the Testing Center Supervisor (ext. 61369) to discuss more in depth statistics relating to test reliability and validity.
