Our mission: To provide educational and communications technology and services in support of teaching, learning, and communicating.

About Us

Classroom and Presentation Services
Classroom and Presentation Services provides communication equipment and software in support of instruction and works with faculty to create digital and audio-video presentation materials for the classroom. Typical products and services include delivery and retrieval of equipment such as video/data projectors and VCR/TV units; production of presentation graphics for classroom instruction, television broadcasts, and videotape production; consultation on presentation design; operation of a library of classroom instructional materials; and duplication of audiotapes, videotapes, CD-ROMs, and DVDs. E-Learning Services
E-Learning Services administers all aspects of Blackboard, a course-management system that enables students and faculty to participate in classes delivered online or use online materials and activities to complement face-to-face teaching. Typical services include training for faculty, technical support, assistance in developing online teaching materials, and consultation on online teaching strategies. Faculty Development Services
Each semester, Academic Technologies develops a curriculum of faculty-development opportunities, including workshops in Blackboard, PowerPoint, FrontPage, and other software; seminars and panel discussions on subjects related to teaching with technology; live, interactive telecasts and other satellite broadcasts; web resources in support of teaching; and an annual Summer Instructional Technology Institute. Computer-Based Testing Services
Each year, Computer-Based Testing administers more than 20,000 proctored tests and examinations, conducted online in the division’s Testing Lab or at various locations through the use of a mobile testing center. Typical services include administration of proctored, web-based tests using Blackboard and other testing software; assistance with test creation and maintenance of test-item databases; consultation and training on effective test writing and testing practices; and development and administration of diagnostic and “low-stakes” tests. Teleproduction Services
Teleproduction Services creates video productions in support of instruction, recruitment, institutional advancement, and outreach. Typical services include pre-production consultation, location and studio production, and post-production editing with full effects. Telecommunications and Teleconferencing Services
Telecommunications and Teleconferencing provides communication services in support of distance learning and university administration. In addition, the division provides communication services for governmental agencies, businesses, civic organizations, and individuals. Typical services include ISDN and IP videoconferencing; satellite teleconferencing; and televised distance-learning courses via cable, microwave, and compressed-video broadcasts to the Boise area, Twin Falls, and other outreach locations. Engineering and Technical Services
Engineering and Technical Services designs, installs, and maintains video, audio, and computer systems in support of instruction and Academic Technologies operations. In addition, the division provides technical support to users of these systems. Typical services include the design, installation, maintenance, and support for classroom technology; technical support and maintenance for Academic Technologies systems and operations; technical support for classrooms, computer labs, and production workstations; and consultation with departments and colleges about design and installation issues involved in classroom building and renovation projects.
