Introducing Lecture-Capture Technology
Academic Technologies is currently beta-testing a new capability—lecture capture—built into most of the rooms in the Interactive Learning Center. This technology allows you to automatically capture video and audio of yourself at the teaching podium while also capturing any projected visuals. You can then publish the captured lecture to the web for on-demand viewing by students on a computer or a mobile device such as an iPod or cell phone.
This technology can be used to digitally record lectures, presentations, special events, supplemental materials, and similar instructional content in a variety of formats, including audio-only podcasts, narrated PowerPoint presentations, and full-motion video containing images of the instructor, images from the screen, and audio commentary recorded at the classroom podium.
You can use this flexible, powerful tool to create rich media for your courses, make content more accessible to students outside of class, and use classroom time more creatively and effectively by moving lecture content online. Students can review material presented in class, preview material before coming to class, view supplemental material not covered during a regular lecture, or study content online as a substitute for a traditional classroom meeting. The captured lectures can be viewed at any time, from any location with an Internet connection, and links to your captured content can be posted automatically to your Blackboard course site.

To schedule lecture capture and arrange for training, contact Ted Eisele at 61695 or teisele@boisestate.edu. If possible, please allow a 1-week lead time.
Although we have been operating this technology in the Simplot/Micron Building for three years, this is the first semester it has been deployed in the Interactive Learning Center. Because we anticipate some initial challenges, we are limiting the number of faculty with access to the system, at least during this beta-testing phase. That said, we encourage you to consider experimenting with this new capability and consider how it might benefit both you and your students. If you are unsure how you might use this technology, one of the instructional designers at Academic Technologies can assist you in identifying suitable and effective uses.
