Blackboard Course Site Requests

Logging In

To log in to the new course site request system:

Log in to your Broncoweb account.

    1. Click “Faculty Center”.

    1. Click “Blackboard Tab” on the top right.

    1. Click the BlackBoard Course Site Requests link. The Faculty Blackboard Request page will open in a new window.

NOTE: If the Faculty Blackboard Request page does not open, make sure that you either allow popups or disable your popup blocking software.

Term Search

Before working with any course site requests, you must select the term for which you will request sites.
To select a term:

    1. Select the desired term from the drop-down menu.
    2. Click the "Search Term" button.



The Reset Button

The "Reset" button, which appears next to the "Search Term" button, will clear everything from the screen and set the term to the current term, as if you had just logged in.

Side Menu Tabs

Once a term is selected and searched, four links or tabs will appear on a menu on left-hand side of the screen:

  • Your People Soft Classes
    • This link lists the classes that you are assigned in PeopleSoft to teach for the selected term
    • From this link you may request Blackboard course sites.
  • Merged BB Course Sites
    • This link lists merged Blackboard course sites that you have requested for the selected term. A merged course site has multiple courses in one Blackboard course site.
    • This link also allows you to view the list of courses associated with your merged course sites and edit the name of the course site.
  • Single BB Course Sites
    • This link lists single Blackboard course sites that you have requested for the selected term. A single course site has one course per Blackboard course site.
    • This link allows you to edit the name of your course site.
  • Manual Enrollments
    • This link shows all the accounts you have added as Instructors, Teaching Assistants, Graders, or Course Builders to your course site.
    • This link allows you to add accounts as Instructors, Teaching Assistants, Graders, or Course Builders to your course site.

Single Course Sites

Requesting Single Course Sites

Single course sites are sites that contain only one course per Blackboard course site. Using this system, you may only request sites for classes you are assigned in PeopleSoft to teach. To request a single course site:

  1. Click on the "Your PeopleSoft Classes" link if it is not already selected.
  2. Select the classes for which you want to request a single course site by clicking on the check box for that course. Each selected class will have one site created for it.
  3. Click on the "Create Single Course Sites" button at the bottom of the page. You will be taken to your "Single BB Course Sites" link, where you may edit the course name of the site you have requested. Please note that, when created, course sites will be unavailable to students in Blackboard. See the Course Site Life Cycle section for more information.



Editing Single Course Site Names

To edit the name of a single Blackboard course site:

  1. Click on the "Single BB Course Sites" link if it is not already selected.
  2. Click inside the course name text box and make the desired changes.
  3. Click "Save Single Course Site Changes."

Merged Course Sites

Requesting Merged Course Sites

Merged course sites are sites that contain multiple courses per site. Using this system, instructors may only request sites for courses they are assigned in PeopleSoft to teach. Please contact Blackboard Assistance (see Information & Resources) to request merged course sites involving multiple faculty members. To request a merged course site:

  1. Click on the "Your PeopleSoft Classes" link if it is not already selected.
  2. Select the classes (two or more) for which you want to request a merged course site by clicking on the check boxes for those courses. One course site will be created that contains all selected courses.
  3. Click on the "Create Merged Course Site" button at the bottom of the page. You will be taken to your "Merged BB Course Sites" link, where you may edit the course name of the site you have requested and view the courses associated with a merged site. Please note that, when created, course sites will be unavailable to students in Blackboard. See the Course Site Life Cycle section for more information.

 

Editing Merged Course Site Names

    1. Click on the "Merged BB Course Sites" link if it is not already selected.
    2. Click inside the course name text box and make the desired changes.
    3. Click "Save Merged Course Site Changes."

Viewing the Courses Associated With a Merged Course Site

  1. Click on the "Merged BB Course Sites" link if it is not already selected.
  2. Click on the course site ID of the course site you wish to view. The courses associated with the site will appear below the course site ID.

 

Copying Course Materials

Copying Course Materials Into a New Site

If you wish to reuse the materials in a course site for another semester, you will need to copy the materials from that course into a new course site. After you request the new site and it is created, you may copy materials from one site to another by following these instructions:

  1. Log in to Blackboard.
  2. Click on the "Courses" tab.
  3. Click on the course you will be copying materials from.
  4. Under tools, to the left of the screen, click on "Control Panel."

 

  1. Under "Course Options," click "Course Copy."

  1. Click "Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course."
  2. Click the "Browse" button to the right of the "Destination Course ID" text box.

  1. Click the "Search" button in the window opened in Step 7.
  1. Click the "Select" button to the right of the course you are copying to.

  1. At this point, you need to select the materials (by clicking the check boxes) that you want to copy into the new course site and click submit. The copy action will be queued and you will be notified by email when it is completed. It is recommended that you not make any changes to the new course site until after you are notified that the copy has been completed. Below are some notes from the Blackboard 7 manual on how certain materials are copied:

 

Course Material

Copies course materials, including uploaded files, Learning Units, and links. Users may also select to include Course Information, Course documents, Assignments, and External Links.

Announcements

All Announcements are copied to the new course. This option must be selected or the links in Announcements to Assessments will be broken.

Tests, Surveys, and Pools

All Assessments and Surveys, including questions and options for deploying them are copied. All Pools are copied to the new course.

Calendar

All Calendar events are copied to the new course.

Collaboration Sessions

Collaboration Sessions.

Course Settings

The only settings that are copied are Course Entry Point, Course Design, Course Banner, and Tools settings.

Discussion Board

Discussion Board forums, including the initial posts in each forum, are copied to the new course.

Gradebook Items and Settings

Items in the Gradebook, and their settings, such as type, categories, and display options, are copied to the new course.

Group Settings

Settings include the names of the Groups, the settings for tool availability, and the Discussion Board forum names.

Staff Information

All Staff Information is copied to the new course.

Non-Standard Requests

Non-Peoplesoft Courses, Department Sites, Major Sites and Other Exceptions

Please contact Blackboard Assistance (see contact information in the Information & Resources section below) for help in creating sites that will not be associated with courses listed in Peoplesoft, such as those for departments, majors and special projects.

Course Site Life Cycle

Course Site Availability

Course sites will be unavailable to students when created. When you are ready for students to access the course, you will need to make it available to them. This is accomplished by the following steps:

  1. Log into Blackboard and access the control panel for the course you wish to make available.

  1. Click "Settings" under "Course Options."

  1. Click "Course Availability."
  2. Select "Yes" and click submit. The course will now be available to students.

Course Site Archival and Removal

  • Course Sites will become unavailable to students 30 days after the end of the semester.
  • Course Sites will be archived and disabled 18 months after the course ends.
  • Course Sites will be removed from the system between 18 and 24 months after the course ends.
