Studio-D: The Digital Projects Studio is a multimedia lab at Academic Technologies where students can design, develop, and produce digital-media projects for academic assignments.

Studio-D offers students current digital-media technologies for Web and multimedia authoring; for creating brochures and flyers; for editing digital video and audio; and for developing digital presentations, documentaries, and portfolios.

For more information, see the Lab Use Policies and Procedures.

What types of DIGITAL MEDIA can students create in STUDIO-D?

Web Pages
Design Web pages that include text, photos, audio, and video, or even your own Flash animations.

Software Available: FrontPage (PC) and Adobe GoLive (Mac) for Webpages; Macromedia Flash or Corel Rave for Flash animations.

Digital Video
Capture and edit digital video clips that incorporate titles, transitions, photos, background music, and narration. Edit and convert audio files and generate unique sound effects.

Software Available: iMovie (Mac) and WIndows Movie Maker (PC; Final Cut Express (Mac) and ULead Video Studio (PC) for larger projects; SoundForge for audio editing.

Presentations
Develop PowerPoint presentations or record dynamic video-based presentations.

Software Available: Microsoft PowerPoint and Serious Magic's Visual Communicator.

Print
Create flyers, newsletters, brochures, or other print-based materials incorporating logos, custom graphics, and photos.

Software Available: Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Publisher; Photoshop Elements for editing photos and creating custom graphics.

Multimedia CD-ROMs
Assemble and burn auto-run, interactive, multimedia CDs to showcase student portfolios, presentations, or catalogs of photos or artwork.

Software Available: iDVD (Mac), HyperStudio, and Multimedia Builder.

Visualizations
Illustrate complex concepts and ideas in math, geography, and geology. Generate digital concept maps from brainstorming sessions, create high-quality diagrams and schematics, or produce QuickTime Panoramas.

Software Available: Geometer's Sketchpad for math; Manifold for GIS, geology, and geography; Inspiration for concept mapping; SmartDraw for diagramming; Panorama Factory for QTVRs.

Group Projects
Because student media projects are often assigned as group projects, Studio-D offers a private room in which groups of students can brainstorm, create, and preview their digital productions.

Instructors who are planning to include a digital-media component in their assignments are encouraged to submit an Online Order for Consulting on Student Media Assignments, including authorizing your students to use the lab, scheduling any desired training, and identifying strategies for planning and managing successful student digital-media projects.

See Lab Use Policies and Procedures for more information.
