Frequently asked questions
What happens if there is a reception problem at one of the sites?
Each class is recorded on videotape. A copy of the videotape is sent
to any site that has a reception problem.
What if my other students miss a lecture?
In addition to the live broadcasts on cable TV, each lecture is taped
and is available for viewing on the premises in the Curriculum and
Resource Center (2nd floor of the Albertson's Library). Taped lectures
are only kept on the shelf for three weeks before they are recycled.
Are my tests proctored at the sites?
Yes, instructors submit a test schedule to the staff, and we schedule
proctors at each site for your tests. Your cable TV students declare which
site they will take proctored tests at when they register for the course.
These will be the only days that cable students will not be able to watch
the broadcasts from their homes.
What if I can't teach on a given day?
You may prerecord your lecture on videotape, or arrange for a guest
lecturer or a substitute instructor.
Who operates the TV gear?
Student employees, called "operators". The operators are trained
extensively before the semester begins, and the staff is there to help
and coach them so that YOU don't have to worry about the cameras or the
technology. You are then free to concentrate on your lecture.
Will I be given some training in how to teach on television before
the semester?
Yes, a 2-3 hour workshop is held with instructors before the
semester giving them an orientation to the system, AND tips and effective
teaching strategies for television. In addition, we ask that you and your
control room operator schedule at least 1 practice session before the semester.
Am I limited to just lecturing?
NO! We often utilize group discussions and presentations in
class. Also, we can integrate 35mm slides, 16mm films, vhs videotapes,
PowerPoint slides, Windows programs, overheads, and various other media
into the broadcast.
