Title:  Introduction to Course Design Capacity: 40
Seats Left: 30
Facilitator: Susan Shadle and Andy Goodman
Description:

This workshop will introduce participants to the “backwards design” process for course design, in which course components are chosen based on first having a clear sense of what students should know or be able to do at the end of the course.

Participants will be introduced to strategies for

  • Choosing and writing effective learning outcomes for a course
  • Assessing student learning
  • Choosing teaching and learning activities that will actively engage students
  • Aligning all the components of the course to support significant learning

Participants are encouraged to bring syllabi and/or other course materials to this workshop.

For faculty who will spend some time during the break with course planning, this workshop will help jumpstart and focus the work. CTL staff are also available during the break to consult individually with faculty involved in course design and planning.
