Discussion Board

We strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with the new Discussion Board.  Initially, you may feel overwhelmed by the change in design and functionality.  However, once you spend some time familiarizing yourself with the new features, you will find many useful enhancements.  This webpage is designed to assist you with the new interface and new features by providing links to tutorials.  In addition, we have created a webpage specifically detailing some of the changes in the Discussion Board, Blackboard 7.3 Discussion Board.

The Discussion Board search tools are more powerful and easier to use. Capabilities that were previously spread out among different pages have been arranged on single pages. Users can rate individual posts and grade selected threads. There are more options available when creating a new Forum.

Early Warning System

The Early Warning System (EWS) enables instructors to proactively measure, monitor, and communicate student performance. This new feature builds upon the Performance Dashboard. An instructor sets up standards for either Gradebook items, due dates, or attendance to alert him or herself when those standards are not met by students. Thus, instructors can quickly and proactively notify students and academic advisors of student performance.

Announcements

When adding an Announcement, instructors can also send the Announcement as an email to students in the course. This ensures that students receive the Announcement even if they do not
login to the course.

Spell Check

Spell Check has been added to Email, Glossary and Assignment Comments

Intelligent Course Copy

Allows instructors to choose whether Course Cartridge content should be copied. If the content is secured and requires student keys for access, these restrictions are copied as well.

Performance Dashboard

Displays last login info for the particular course site, not just last login by students to the Blackboard system as a whole.
